Abstract	This collection of papers considers processes involved in language change and issues of how they can be modeled and studied. After "Introduction" (Raymond Hickey), there are 15 papers in 6 parts. Part 1, "The Phenomenon of Language Change," includes: (1) "On Change in 'E-language'" (Peter Matthews); and (2) "Formal and Functional Motivation for Language Change" (Frederick J. Newmeyer). Part 2, "Linguistic Models and Language Change," includes: (3) "Metaphors, Models and Language Change" (Jean Aitchison); (4) "Log(ist)ic and Simplistic S-Curves" (David Denison); (5) "Regular Suppletion" (Richard Hogg); and (6) "On Not Explaining Language Change: Optimality Theory and the Great Vowel Shift" (April McMahon). Part 3, "Grammaticalisation," includes: (7) Grammaticalisation: Cause or Effect?" (David Lightfoot); and (8) "From Subjectification to Intersubjectification" (Elizabeth Closs Traugott). Part 4, "The Social Context for Language Change," includes (9) "On the Role of the Speaker in Language Change" (James Milroy).
