Abstract | This document contains the 15 publications constituting the third stage of the Voyager program, which is a four-stage program that utilizes contemporary content and instructional approaches to teach the reading, writing, critical thinking, and communication skills that adults need in today's world and to take adult learners from the beginning stages of reading through the ninth-grade level. The Voyager program combines contemporary content and instructional approaches with traditional instructional practices to help adult learners develop reading, writing, listening, speaking, and thinking skills through theme-based lessons that include opportunities for students to work independently and collaboratively in a variety of settings. The publications included in Stage 3 focus on reading to learn, and they use reading materials typically found at home, at work, at school, and in the community to expand students' reading, thinking, writing, and oral communication skills. The specific Voyager components included in this document are as follows: (1) a teacher's resource guide; (2)student books for Levels 4, 5 and 6 (featuring lessons on staying healthy, getting a job, sense of community, crime and the law, money matters, life on the job, making a difference, cultural pluralism, success at work, taking a stand, relationships, and insights); (3) separate workbooks, puzzle books, and vocabulary workbooks for each Level 4, 5 and 6 book; and (5) a student booklet and teacher scoring guide for a tool for student placement.
