AbstractThese four pamphlets in Spanish offer guidelines supported by theory-driven quality research that is problem-based, practice-relevant, and consumer-oriented. Each pamphlet has a section summarizing research from the literature or topic notes as well as implications for the classroom. The first guide offers principles for teachers concerning the use of ability grouping. It considers what research has found concerning grouping and self-confidence, flexible or permanent grouping arrangements, the importance of individualization, and grouping as only one of several ways to meet the individual needs of gifted students. Specific research findings are listed, such as the superior academic achievement of gifted students who are ability grouped compared to similar students who are not ability grouped. The second pamphlet presents curriculum compacting as a process to streamline the grade level curriculum by eliminating material students have previously learned and challenging learners by providing them with time for enrichment or acceleration activities. Research facts supporting curriculum compacting conclude the pamphlet. The guide on cooperative learning points out that students with a variety of talents and academic abilities can be grouped together when the learning task requires a variety of skills. Other factors to consider in cooperative learning activities are the need to provide challenging content material and to recognize each student's individual contribution to the group task. The fourth pamphlet makes suggestions for teachers concerning the use of mentors for individualized tutoring of gifted students in specific academic or creative areas. Guidelines for developing a mentor/tutorial program and for fostering the tutor/student relationship are offered. (DB)
