Abstract | This study identifies opportunities in three Mediterranean countries Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan, for improving the support available for management and entrepreneurial development to stimulate growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). After an executive summary, Part 1 provides an analysis of the situation across the three countries, identifying common trends in management development support for SMEs in the countries that could form a basis for actions to be taken at a multi-country level. Part 2 provides an analysis of the situation in each country. The analysis includes an overview of the socioeconomic context; summary of the situation in regard to SMEs, the environment in which they operate and their potential for growth; a critical overview of the training and support currently available to managers and entrepreneurs in SMEs; and an overview of the support and impact created by donors' interventions. Recommendations on how to improve the training and support are given at the end of the analysis. (YLB) |
