| Abstract | This report contains seven articles on current issues in higher education and a separate faculty salary report for 1999-2000. Articles on the "Status of the Profession" are: (1) "Faculty Salaries, 1999-2000" (Suzanne B. Clery and John B. Lee); (2) "Unions and Faculty Governance" (Christine Maitland and Gary Rhoades); (3) "Higher Education Collective Bargaining and the Law" (Gregory M. Saltzman); (4) "Workload and Tenure Policies in an Era of Organizational Change" (Henry Lee Allen); (5) "Higher Education Finance in the Nineties: Lessons for the New Millennium" (William Zumeta); (6) "Faculty Benefits and Retirement: "Save Young, Live Long, and Prosper" (William Dale Crist); and (7) "Higher Education Support Personnel: Worklife Issues" (Linda K. Johnsrud). The institutional faculty salary report provides data for 3,176 institutions. Data, which are organized by state, institutional type, and control, are based on data from the 1999-2000 Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System. Each chapter contains references.
