Abstract | This report discusses tuition, fee costs, and related information at Iowa Community Colleges. Highlights include: (1) the average Iowa community college tuition increased $489 or 34% between fiscal year 1993 and fiscal year 2001; (2) the average tuition for the 2001 fall and spring semesters was $1,937; (3) in 1980, tuition and fees generated 24% of the total operating funds; (4) in fiscal year 2000, 39% of the total operating funds were generated through tuition and fees; (5) the average tuition was $647 (48%) above the national average, according to the National Center for Educational Statistics; (6) Iowa ranks fourth in tuition when compared with the surrounding states of South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, and Kansas; (7) in fiscal year 1999, the colleges collected $115.5 million from tuition and fees, which represented 38.9% of the general operating funds; and (8) in fiscal year 1999 the Regents' institutions collected $232.4 million from tuition and fees, representing 29.9% of the general university funding.
