Abstract | This directory contains brief descriptions and contact information for organizations, agencies, and publications related to rural education. Mindful of the wide variety of issues impacting rural schools and related information needs, the directory includes national associations, research and training centers, health organizations, publishers, federal programs, and colleges and universities, as well as rural development councils, extension offices, and data centers in most states. Section 1 contains international, national, and multistate nongovernmental organizations, including 36 organizations concerned with advocacy, networking, or reform, and 30 concerned with research, development, technical assistance, or training. Section 2 covers federal agencies and programs: the 4 regional rural development centers and 9 other agencies or programs of the U.S. Department of Agriculture; the 10 regional educational laboratories, 7 regional resource centers, 11 regional technology in education consortia, and 11 other agencies and programs of the U.S. Department of Education; 4 other federal rural programs; and 14 sites of the National Science Foundation's Rural Systemic Initiative. Section 3 presents 28 journals, newsletters, and magazines concerned with rural matters. Section 4 lists organizations, programs, and services for each state, as well as U.S. territories and Canadian provinces. (Contains an index.) (SV) |
