AbstractNew research shows that the involvement of both mothers and fathers is important to children's education. Recognizing that promoting fathers' involvement depends greatly on the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of the teachers, administrators, child care providers, and social support staff, this report is designed to inform, promote, and celebrate fathers' increased participation in children's learning. Section 1 of the report describes research on the benefits of family involvement and includes a discussion of how father's involvement in learning contributes to student educational success. Section 2 provides a discussion of strategies for improving and extending fathers' involvement in their children's education, whether or not they reside with the child. Section 3 provides examples of programs that involve fathers in children's learning and their practices. A comprehensive list of organizations and Internet resources is appended. Includes a fact sheet on the Partnership for Family Involvement in Education. (Contains 20 references.) (HTH)
