AbstractHealth, education, and human service agencies are beginning to think strategically and systematically about how to provide family members with opportunities for meaningful involvement as partners. Noting that collaboration between families and professionals in program and policy settings requires all parties to acquire new skills, this guide for group facilitators provides experiential exercises to help family members and professionals forge new relationships and formulate new ideas for future work together. Activities for this 3-hour group meeting use a variety of learning formats, including brainstorming, individual reflection, large and small group discussion, and case study analysis. The guide provides information on the recommended group size, trainer or facilitator qualifications, materials needed, ways to modify the training, and information on additional resources. Also included are extensive notes for trainers or facilitators, a sample meeting agenda, activity instructions and materials needed, and handouts. (KB)
