AbstractThis test manual provides information on the Adaptive Behavior Education Scale-Home Version (ABES), a 25-minute behavior scale designed to evaluate adaptive skills in students with behavioral, learning, and intellectual disabilities, including educationally relevant behavior which may be identified as contributing to more appropriate diagnosis, placement, and programming. The 104 items included in the ABES are clustered into the following 10 subscales: (1) communication; (2) self-care; (3) home living; (4) social skills; (5) community use; (6) self-direction, including skills related to making choices, learning and following a schedule, and completing necessary or required tasks; (7) health and safety; (8) functional academics; (9) leisure; and (10) work. Participants are rated on a 0-5 scale on the extent to which they engage in the behavior. The manual provides the rationale and an overview of the components of the ABES, information on the test's reliability and validity, administration of the test and scoring, and interpretation of results of the scale using the test manual. Appendices include information on the conversion of raw scores to subscale standard score and conversion of sum of subscale standard scores to quotient and percentile scores. (Contains 50 references.) (CR)
