AbstractThis curriculum unit is the third part of a three-part curriculum. The focus of this unit is on the U.S.-Japan economic relationship. Increasingly, the world resembles numerous, linked sub-economies fitting into an overall global economy. The making of almost any product relies in some way on international trading. In an increasingly economically interdependent world, it is vital that students become acquainted with the basic concepts underlying international trade. The goal of this curriculum unit is to give students an understanding of the concepts associated with international trade through focus on the U.S.-Japan economic relationship. Provided is a rationale and introduction to the lessons, along with unit goals, materials, time required, suggested sequence of activities, small group roles, grade levels, subjects, equipment needed, and icons. Lessons included in the unit are: (1) "Economic Interdependence"; (2) "The Process of Trade"; (3) "The Benefits of Trade"; (4) "The Problems of Trade"; and (5) "The Future of U.S.-Japan Relations." Handouts and primary source documents have been provided with each lesson to present students with a range of perspectives on the topic being studied. The volume concludes with a list of references and a glossary. (LB)
