Abstract | Including the Spring 1999 reading data from all public elementary schools in Louisiana containing first, second, and third grades, this report provides the results of the analysis of the Developmental Reading Assessment data that measured the reading abilities of all students in Louisiana. Louisiana is committed to improving students' reading abilities, with a primary emphasis on early intervention. It targets students who are at risk of experiencing difficulty in reading. Table 1 includes each district's total enrollment for grades first through third and the reading levels of those students. Table 2 reflects reading data for each district's schools, and Table 3 reports a comparison of Fall 1998 and Spring 1999 reading data for each district's second and third grade students. Results indicate that 69.07% of the first, second, and third graders who were assessed are reading on or above grade level. (Contains a Summary of Findings and 5 charts to illustrate these findings.)
