AbstractThe Public Accounts of Alberta are prepared in accordance with the Financial Administration Act and the Government Accountability Act. This annual report of the Ministry of Education contains the audited, consolidated financial statements of the ministry and offers a comparison of actual performance results with desired results set out in the ministry's business plan. It lists the eight goals of the ministry, such as the desire that education be focused on what students need to learn, that parents and the community should have the opportunity to be involved in the governance and delivery of a restructured education system, and that the education-funding system be fair, equitable, and affordable. The text reports on the progress made in trying to reach these goals. The report includes the accounts of government entities consisting of departments, revolving funds, the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund, and other regulated funds, provincial agencies, and Crown-controlled corporations. Components of the Ministry that receive detailed attention include curriculum standards, language services, learning technologies, information services, special education, the Native education project, teacher certification, and school facilities. A summary of expenditures under each appropriation in the ministry is included in the financial statements of each department. (RJM)
