Abstract | This report is designed for analysis by the California Community College Chancellor's Office. Income data were collected for the 1992-93 cohort of community college completers and leavers their last year in school, first year out of school, and third year out of school. Graduates' earnings are based on data in the state unemployment insurance wage file, and incomes have been converted to 1996 dollars using the consumer price index. These data provide a useful tool to community college program directors, instructors, students and industry. By providing a framework to measure student income progress, questions may be answered regarding the kind of financial returns students can expect on educational investments, and which programs help the most in securing lucrative employment. Included in the report are earnings of all CCSF students by educational attainment, age, and vocational exposure, as well as earnings of vocational students by (1) educational attainment, (2) vocational program, (3) age, (4) gender, (5) ethnicity, (6) academic disadvantage, (7) economic status, (8) English proficiency, and (9) disability status. Findings indicate that, as would be expected, the greater the amount of education, the greater the increase in income. (Contains 7 graphs and 13 data tables.) (EMH) |
