Abstract	A curriculum was developed that is intended to be a practical interpretation of Francis Kazemek's metaphor of adult basic and literacy education (ABLE) as storytelling. The curriculum, which is intended to encourage adult basic education (ABE) students to develop literacy skills by reading/writing about their experiences and visions, is designed to be used in conjunction with a library of books related to all five General Educational Development (GED) subjects and to adult personal and workplace concerns. A curriculum guide explaining how ABE/GED instructors can investigate the metaphor of ABLE as storytelling and help students use fiction and nonfiction as a basis for telling, reading, and writing stories was developed. Student performance data, project entry/exit interviews, and students' written and oral evaluations of the curriculum all supported the continued use of storytelling activities in ABE programs.
