Abstract | This unit is one of three self-contained modules for self-assessment, career exploration, and life skills designed for use with special populations (persons with disabilities, educationally and economically disadvantaged persons, persons with limited English proficiency, students in programs designed to eliminate sex bias, and prisoners) in vocational education classes. The module integrates student activities, an instructor guide, and a student guide written on the sixth- and seventh-grade reading levels. It includes the following: a matrix of competencies and skills cross-referenced to the Missouri Pre-Employment and Work-Maturity Competencies; suggestions for teachers; a list of 35 videotapes, 2 textbooks, and a software program; and 8 lessons. The lessons cover the following: communication; money management; community awareness; self-esteem and values; decision making and problem solving; goal setting, planning and accomplishing tasks; physical and mental health; and preemployment and work maturity.
