AbstractThis document is one of eight in a series of guides designed to help teach and counsel troubled youth. It presents 20 lessons designed to teach the coping skills necessary to control one's temper. The first lesson teaches students the meaning of aggressive behavior; this lesson and several others throughout the guide focus on helping aggressive students who deny their aggressiveness to break through their denial and evaluate more accurately their own aggressiveness. Lesson 3 helps students to better identify the causes of anger and aggression. Several lessons focus on misdirected anger and aggression, scapegoating, taking one's anger out on other people, and managing anger more appropriately. Other lessons concentrate on the lifelong consequences of being out of control, the consequences of aggressiveness, and the difficulty one might have finding and keeping work if one lacks adequate anger control skills. Students are taught about different types of anger and are helped to acknowledge responsibility for their aggressiveness, to anticipate and control their aggressive behavior, and to use new anger control methods. Finally, students are taught that their aggressiveness hurts them more than anybody or anything else. (NB)
