Abstract	The purpose of this guidebook is to give teachers in British Columbia, Canada a practical resource that will help address issues pertaining to the 500th anniversary of the first European contact with the Americas. The document is a resource teachers can use to get students to think about, talk about, or reflect on the 500 years of contact between the indigenous and nonindigenous people of the Americas. The guide has information on resources useful to teachers at all grade levels, and approaches the topic of indigenous peoples from various perspectives including historical and cultural The material presented is designed to be useful to teachers in addressing such specific issues as land claims and the history of the indigenous peoples' resistance to the European occupation. The guide contains the following sections: (1) "Indigenous Life in the Americas before 1492"; (2) "Conquest/First Encounter"; (3) "Resistance"; (4) "Land Issues Today"; (5) "Primary"; (6) "Early Intermediate (Intermediate)"; and (7) "Late Intermediate (Secondary)." The final section "Resources," provides annotated lists of resources under various categories including recommended reading, books, audio visual, magazines and newspapers. Contains about 50 titles.
