| Abstract | The Kodak Skills Enhancement program was a workplace literacy project funded through the U.S. Department of Education's National Workplace Literacy Program. The project goals were as follows: (1) establish a positive climate within the Kodak corporate environment to ensure program effectiveness by garnering support at all levels; (2) determine the workplace literacy needs of Kodak's Colorado division; (3) write a performance-based functional context literacy curriculum for three targeted functional job groupings; (4) develop and use a multistrand model for implementing a workplace skills enhancement program; (5) evaluate the program's effectiveness and efficiency; and (6) make project models available for replication throughout the industry. An independent evaluation confirmed that all of these goals were met. Employees' workplace literacy needs were assessed through observations and interviews, focus groups, supervisory input, and individual assessment. Performance-based literacy training modules emphasizing reading, math, and writing skills were developed and delivered along with management awareness training, a skills enhancement center, peer tutoring, and group instruction. The project models were disseminated at national and state conferences and through a network of northern Colorado manufacturing organizations. (The external evaluation report is appended.
