Abstract | In 1990, the Carnegie Council on Adolescent Development convened a Task Force to guide the work on a new Project on Youth Development and Community Programs. The major goals of this project are to expand the scope and availability of developmentally appropriate, community-based services for young adolescents, particularly those in high-risk environments. Two of the specific mandates of the project were related to the evaluation of youth programs. On January 15, 1991, a one-day consultation was held to assess the current challenges and successes of youth organizations as they work to evaluate their programs and to make recommendations for strengthening program evaluation efforts. This document contains: (1) a summary of the meeting; (2) a roster of the approximately 20 participants (Appendix A); (3) a summary of their written answers to questions (Appendix B); (4) a summary of the state of program evaluation within 19 selected national youth organizations (Appendix C); (5) summaries of 3 selected articles included in the briefing report preparing participants for the meeting (Appendix D); and (6) a bibliography of 22 sources on evaluation of youth development programs (Appendix E).
