AbstractThis proposal contains a plan to alter the curriculum at Georgia Institute of Technology for the following reasons: to educate its students in Total Quality Management (TQM) approaches and practice, to develop a major research initiative designed to understand what TQM approaches work and why, to become a major center for the collection and dissemination of information from these research studies and from practitioners so as to accelerate the adoption of TQM principles, to completely revamp operations throughout the Institute, and to achieve these aims in an intensive collaboration with the business community. The plan calls for the creation of customer-driven processes in each of these areas to ensure that the school is continuously meeting or exceeding student expectations. The plan also includes a substantial financial and human resource commitment from Georgia Tech as well as a partnership with International Business Machines Corporation. Appendixes include a list of faculty members and others connected with Georgia Tech who have TQM expertise and interests, a table of course descriptions and documentation, an organization chart, a set of vitae of principal investigators, and a page of selected notes on the IBM-Georgia Tech relationship.
