AbstractThis report contains materials from a workshop aimed at the production and usage of video programs in the field of functional literacy, especially as literacy follow-up materials. Chapter I contains the proceedings and consists of an introduction, objective, and summaries of opening speeches, presentations, and group work. Chapter II provides these papers: "ACCU's (Asian Cultural Centre for Unesco) Regional Cooperative Literacy Programmes in Asia and the Pacific--Literacy Materials Development and Personnel Training"; "Development of Literacy Follow-up Materials" (Somtrakool); "The Impact of Functional Literacy on Human Resource Development" (Hussain); "Research in the Design, Production, and Use of Instructional Media" (extract from a paper by Kemp and Smellie); "The Production of Video Programmes" (Tsumagi); and "Literacy and Continuing Education for Women" (Sakya). Chapter III provides details of the group work, in which four groups (health, consumerism, conservation, and rural industry) developed materials through this procedure: field survey, preparation of materials, field testing, and revision and finalization. Reports of the three groups include a village profile, description of material development and field testing, and some illustrations or text from the 11 kinds of materials developed by the 4 groups (5 video programs and 6 supporting materials). Appendixes include the workshop schedule, participant list, and three welcoming addresses (by Kamari, Said, and Inumaru). (YLB)
