Abstract | This book is intended to provide background information for people interested in school television; for producers and editors of educational broadcasts worldwide; and newcomers, information seekers, and researchers in the field of educational broadcasting. Material in the book is presented in seven "chapters" or sections: Chapter 1--a summary report of a survey of educational broadcasting, predominantly in western Europe, which was conducted by the European Broadcasting Union's (EBU) Working Party for Educational Programs; Chapter 2--the contributions by symposium participants on the topic "School Television in the 90s"; Chapters 3, 4, and 5--articles on the topics "School Television and the Teacher,""Support Services for School Television," and "Models of International Cooperation and Coproduction"; Chapter 6--24 case studies of successful school television programs or descriptive accounts of developments in specific subject areas including science education, mathematics, health, nature and environment, mother tongue, foreign languages and communication skills, history, current affairs and civics, and media education; and Chapter 7--recently completed works on school television research. Further information is contained in an alphabetical index of notes about the contributors, references to the overviews and reports, and a list of abbreviations and acronyms that denote European broadcasting organizations.
