AbstractIntended for use by both teachers and teacher-librarians, this guide for teaching library and information skills presents a five-step model for the research process: (1) planning the research project; (2) searching for relevant information; (3) selecting and evaluating the information found as it relates to the project; (4) presenting the results; and (5) evaluation of the presentation (or final product), the student's research skills, and the search process. The first of seven chapters provides an overview of the goals of the research and the utilization of research activities. Chapter 2 explains the roles of the student, the teacher, the teacher librarian, and the available resources in developing a research activity. The five stages of the research model are presented in tabular form in chapter 3 together with the search skills and strategies that come into play at each stage; objectives for two levels of instruction are provided. Links between programs are emphasized in chapter 4, with emphasis on the skills that encourage the use of the research. Information that will be useful to teachers who are beginning to integrate research into classroom activities is presented in chapter 5, and chapter 6 offers examples of the implementation of research integration into classroom activities for each of the five stages. Descriptions of research activities by teachers who integrate research skills into their teaching are presented in the seventh chapter. Appended materials include ready-to-copy worksheets and forms designed for use by teachers who are planning to integrate research activities into their classes.
