Abstract | This bibliography provides a recommended list of research and theoretical literature in school restructuring of interest to practitioners, policymakers, and researchers. The first section contains general references, including 66 articles and books on school reform proposals, how schools work, and the change process. The second section, addressing student experience, lists 60 references related to curricular and instructional reform, student grouping methods, student engagement, and alternative assessment methods. The third section, which deals with the professional life of teachers, contains 23 articles and books that analyze teachers' work life and offer proposals for enhancing the teaching profession. The fourth section contains 44 references on school governance divided among policy issues and new accountability structures; school-site management; leadership; and school climate and culture. The final section, treating school-community collaboration, has 26 articles and books on policy issues, coordination of children's social services, business-school partnerships, and parent involvement.
