Abstract	This module is part of a training program for foster parents and foster care workers offered at Colorado State University. The module's learning objectives address: (1) the position of the foster child as an outsider in the foster family; (2) foster parenting experiences with children from birth to 18 years of age; and (3) the process of psychological parenting, that is, the fulfillment of the child's psychological needs for a parent. The module consists of three lectures. Each lecture includes reading material and exercises for individuals or groups. Lecture 1 considers parents' experiences at the various stages of a child's development. Lecture 2 considers the position of the foster child as an outsider in the new family system. Exercises and charts for helping foster parents understand foster children's viewpoints are provided. Lecture 3 considers the special problems of nonnormative parenting, or parenting in which the parental authority is shared among biological parents, foster parents, and public or private agencies. The physical, emotional, social, and spiritual elements of psychological parenting, and elements involving family inclusion, are listed. A practice vignette allows participants to respond to a hypothetical foster child's problem. A list of 10 references is provided. A five-page form for evaluating the module is included. (BC)
