Abstract | This handbook describes strategies for coordinating career planning efforts for adult probationers. The ideas are based on experiences in three field-test sites involved in planning, implementing, and evaluating career planning services for adult probationers in Illinois. These cooperative efforts concentrated on developing and establishing linkages among the local adult probation department, appropriate educational resources, and community service programs. The four sections of the guide cover the following topics: (1) probation and education linkages, including networking and two models for the career planning process; (2) vocational assessment as a process and the importance of vocational assessment for adult probationers; (3) individualized career plans, with examples; and (4) agencies and resources in Illinois (adult education, Department of Commerce and Community Affairs, Department of Employment Security, Department of Public Aid, Department of Rehabilitation Services, community colleges and universities, and Department of Veterans' Affairs). For each of these agencies or resources, information is provided in a question-and-answer format, programs are described, a map of locations is given, and sample forms are included. (KC) |
