Abstract	The discovery and use of community resources are necessary if the school is to assume the role of social agent and if the curriculum is to bring about desirable changes in the student and the community. This 1939 Yearbook sought to provide rural teachers with a philosophy concerning the school-community relationship and examples of programs implementing it. The first chapter discusses the close relationship of the local school to its community and examines philosophic trends toward conceptions of education as an important contributor to child development, as a continuous process, and as a process to improve the community as well as the student. Other chapters address: (1) methods for discovering community resources; (2) youth service to the community through the conservation and development of resources; (3) the use of community resources in curriculum development; (4) the discovery and use of community resources in the education of black and Spanish-speaking students; and (5) an evaluation of the educational movement to integrate the school and community. Each section contains references and/or photographs illustrating the program. (SV)
