| Abstract | The interaction of demographic and economic shifts has led to, and will continue to effect, changes in the postsecondary education system and institutions. Demographic shifts include aging of the population, more women in the paid labor force, and increased numbers of minorities. Economic shifts include the growth of the information sector, service sector growth, industrial sector shrinkage, a boom in self-employment, and technological advancement. Ways in which projects supported by the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education have responded to these demographic and economic factors are described. (JDD) |
