Abstract | This color-coded guide provides a generic core employment skills and attitudes guide for special needs students that is appropriate for use in all occupational areas. The units should facilitate the mainstreaming of students with a wide variety of handicapping and disadvantaged conditions. The units are self-paced and contain hands-on materials, objective evaluation checklists, controlled text, and vocabulary development. The "instructor's information" section located in front of the book contains notes to the instructor, helpful resources, and answer keys. The 10 units in the guide cover the following: decision making and problem solving; relations with others; work attitudes and habits; communication; professional hygiene; self-evaluation; applying information; the job interview; paperwork; and keeping the job. Each unit is color-coded for the following components: introduction, objectives, and student assessment; terms and equipment; steps of procedure; skill sheets; activity sheets; and unit review and performance checklist.
