| Abstract | This booklet contains ideas and suggestions about what individuals and groups can do to promote literacy during and after International Literacy Year 1990. The central message of the booklet is that "you can make a difference." The booklet consists of two parts. The first, "Identifying the Issues," poses the problem of illiteracy in the world--what it is, what it means, whom it affects, and what International Literacy Year aims to do about it. The second part, "Towards a Solution," describes some of the ways individuals can promote literacy in the home, school, and community, as well as through organizations and governments. (KC) |
