Abstract | This volume encompasses 44 research studies that were conducted mainly by graduate students in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, M.S. University of Baroda, India. The studies are organized in six broad categories: (1) child care in tribal, rural and urban poor, and institutional settings; (2) early childhood care and education, including the topics of home-based and school-based programs, assessment, training of early childhood workers, educational play materials, and a special ICDS program; (3) children with special needs, including the topics of diagnoses and programs for children with learning difficulties and disabilities, hospitalized children and their caretakers, and an integrated program for developmentally handicapped children; (4) population education and family welfare, including the topics of the functioning of family welfare centers, and training needs of child and family welfare workers; (5) the status of women; and (6) nutritional status and secular trends in regards to physical development.
