| Abstract | This update of "A Brief History of the Association of Teacher Educators" (ATE) not only extends the printed history of ATE to 1990, but also refines portions of the original document. The additional information derives from a great many association and personal documents and from numerous interview-conversations with individuals and groups. The following are among the topics covered: the organizational meeting of 1920; the first annual program (1921); a brief history of the association from 1920 to 1989; lists of presidents of the precurser to ATE, the Association for Student Teaching (AST) and of ATE, ATE distinguished members, and ATE distinguished educator lecturers; lists of distinguished research in teacher education (1973-1989), distinguished programs in teacher education (1977-1989), distinguished dissertations in teacher education (1981-1989), and distinguished clinicians (1987-1989).
