Abstract | This publication contains information on 101 federal programs that provide funding to rural projects initiated by local governments, public agencies, tribal governments, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, citizen groups, and individuals. Eligible local project categories include conservation, farm ownership and operation, housing, economic development, community services, nutrition, educational services, public transportation, small businesses, and job training. The funding programs are administered by the Department of Agriculture (29 programs), Department of Commerce (10), Department of Health and Human Services (13), Department of Housing and Urban Development (8), Department of Education (13), and 10 other federal departments and agencies. Each citation outlines program objectives, types of assistance available, uses and use restrictions, eligibility requirements, information contacts, and examples of funded projects. This information was compiled from an online system, the Federal Assistance Programs Retrieval System (FAPRS), and the print version of this database, the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance, 1989. Information on how to access FAPRS and how to obtain the catalogue is provided. (SV) |
