Abstract | The third volume of this handbook for professionals in librarianship, archival studies, and information science in Eastern and Southern Africa focuses on the user of information and documentation establishments in Kenya. The six papers included in this collection are: (1) "The Online User in a Developing Country: The Case of Kenya" (S. Ouma); (2) "Effects of Library Automation on Library Users" (M. A. W. Muiruri); (3) "The Role of a School Library and Its Applicability in Developing Countries: The Case for Kenya" (J. N. Otike); (4) "How Non-Book Materials Can Enhance User Education" (M. N. Mathu); (5) "User Studies: How To Identify Potential and Actual User Needs" (K. J. Mchombu); and (6) "Information and Users: How To Bring Them Together--The Intermediary Role of the Professional" (J. M. Ng'ang'a). References are included in each of the six papers, and two appendixes present a description of a news magazine, "Information Trends," and a list of 14 reports from the German Foundation for International Development.
