Abstract | A study was conducted to identify the factors in the school workplace that may contribute to the health status of secondary agriculture teachers in the United States. The research involved a descriptive-correlational study, in which 303 teachers from a random sample of more than 500 replied to a questionnaire. Results showed that teachers perceived the school workplace to be deficient in (1) quality of the physical environment, such as laboratory noise and air quality; and (2) administrative assistance in maintaining physical and mental well-being. Significant and meaningful relationships existed between (1) environment and health care experience; (2) environment and days missed by health area; (3) administrative assistance and health care experiences; and (4) wellness program participation and days missed by health area. The most important relationships were in the health categories of injuries, systemic, and emotional or psychosomatic illness. Wellness programs were recommended. (KC) |
