Abstract	The composite results from eight surveys conducted between 1985 and 1987 by CENSIS (Social Investment Study Center, Italy) reveal some behavioral trends of Italian youth. Part 1 of this paper discusses the indications from the collected data. The instruments tested youth perceptions on seven topics that included values orientation, formal education, extracurricular activities, employment, social and religious institutions, interpersonal relationships, and local and global awareness of society. Part 2 discusses Italian youth in terms of: (1) the prolonging of youthfulness; (2) the multiplicity of social experience; (3) the need for the immaterial; (4) the demand for realistic values; (5) the fragmentation of life and identity; (6) the role of non-conflict; and (7) the inability of institutions to fulfill needs. Italian youth were more realistic and sought openness in communication, employment, and emotional exchange as well as satisfaction of their desires.
