AbstractThe third edition of the Life Centered Career Education curriculum for special education students in grades K through 12 focuses on the domains of daily living, personal-social, and occupational skills. These are organized into 22 competencies and 97 subcompetencies. The guide is intended to be used for the development of individualized education programs (IEP) and for student assessment as well as direct instruction. An introductory chapter reviews the history of career education, distinguishes career education from vocational education and related areas, and suggests future directions. The next chapter details the structure of the curriculum including both competencies and subcompetencies. It also discusses curriculum implementation specifying the roles of special and regular educators, the family, and the community. The major portion of the document charts objectives, activities/strategies, and the roles of adults and peers for each of the subcompetencies. The last section explains student competency assessment and includes competency rating scales and provides a sample IEP form incorporating the curriculum's competencies and subcompetencies. The manual for the competency rating scale and master forms for duplication are appended. (DB)
