Abstract | This curriculum guide outlines a 3-year sequence of complementary courses designed to provide students (especially in Alberta, Canada) with a broad awareness of the economic, social, and scientific realities of the agricultural enterprise. Information is presented in context, through hands-on activity, through experimentation, and through examination of current agricultural practices. The guide is organized in seven chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the program and provides information on program rationale and philosophy, goals, organization, and planning considerations. Chapters 2 through 4 outline each of the three years' programs, covering three themes (production, processing, and marketing; technology and research; resource management) and a survey topic (what is agriculture?). For each theme, a topic outline matches topics with suggested student activities and learning resources. Chapter 5 provides additional optional units. Chapter 6 provides an annotated listing of learning resources. Chapter 7 is an appendix that lists supplementary learning resources by source. (KC) |
