Abstract | Educational planners know that international leadership in the 21st century will require a workforce that is: (1) skilled in science and technology; (2) able to provide better products and services; and (3) trained to solve problems by creative, innovative, and critical thinking. School reform is needed to enhance the potential leadership for this economic growth and to equalize the quality of education for all citizens. This paper traces school reform efforts in the United States, England, and Wales since the 1960s and highlights selected books, laws, reports, and programs that relate to reforms in economics education or educational equity. The document suggests that educational organizations are striving for improvements and that voters decide the speed and quality of the changes by whom they elect and how strongly they demand reform action.
