Abstract | Alberta's teaching guide for upper-elementary French immersion instruction provides assistance in integrating notional program content with communicative language techniques. It does not provide content material, but focuses on techniques for enhancing instruction of both receptive (reading and listening) and productive (writing and speaking) skills. Separate sections are devoted to oral communication, reading, writing, and spelling, each serving as a guide to lesson development, classroom implementation, and evaluation. A subsequent section provides explanations of the principles underlying the techniques, formulation and communication of the objectives of classroom activities, and aspects of language skills development specific to this age group. Three sample lessons are included, one each for fourth, fifth, and sixth grade. (MSE) |
