AbstractAs part of Scarborough's (Ontario) Co-operative Evaluation and Development of School Systems (CEDSS) project, an evaluation was conducted of the Board of Education's cooperative education program, which involved in-school instruction with on-the-job experience. The evaluation, which involved surveys of cooperative education students, a control group of students, cooperative education teachers, employers, and parents, focused on the following concerns: (1) students' reasons for taking part in the program and the relationship between these reasons and program goals; (2) teachers' perceptions of program goals; (3) parents' reasons for recommending the program and their perceptions of program goals; (4) program publicity; (5) selection of students; (6) number of credits awarded to students; (7) selection of training station placements; (8) scheduling; (9) schools' supervision and monitoring of students; (10) role of central office staff; (11) communication with employers; (12) communication with parents; (13) influences of parental background on student selection of the cooperative education program; (14) attitudes of program staff; (15) reasons for teachers' and employers' involvement in the program; (16) union attitudes toward the program; and (17) outcomes related to student motivation; student understanding of the world of work; and students', teachers', employers', and parents' perceptions of the program. The study report includes survey instruments and detailed findings. (LAL)
