Abstract | This summary of Council for Educational Technology (CET) activities begins with a definition of educational technology and a brief statement on its importance in the learning process. Activities, including involvement in both CET and cooperative projects, are then briefly described in 16 areas: (1) instructional technology (IT) in the curriculum; (2) the technology, including hardware, software, artificial intelligence, operating systems, file interchange, software distribution, and online databases; (3) communications, including electronic mail and bulletin boards; (4) videotex, including Prestel, Viewdata, and telesoftware; (5) teleconferencing; (6) broadcasting and satellite technology; (7) interactive video; (8) IT and microelectronics for children with special needs and students with learning difficulties; (9) IT in administration and management of schools; (10) IT and learning information skills; (11) IT and links with libraries; (12) IT and training; (13) open learning; (14) international links; (15) standards and specifications; and (16) copyright. Sources of additional information are indicated for a number of the projects and a list of CET publications providing information on the potential and applications of some of the technologies mentioned is appended.
