| Abstract | A study examined Florida's certification process for postsecondary vocational education teachers. After reviewing previous research on the certification of vocational educators in Florida, the commission solicited data analyzing the differences in teaching ability between certified and noncertified vocational teachers and the content validity, availability, and adequacy of funding for preservice vocational teacher education programs. Commission members also conducted on-site visits to designated vocational-technical centers and schools. The data collected were analyzed and incorporated into a series of recommendations addressing (1) certification requirements for vocational personnel; (2) preservice vocational education; (3) inservice education, technical updating, and recertification; and (4) the State master teacher program and salary compensation for vocational personnel. (Appendixes to this report include a breakdown of occupational categories for vocational certification by the State, the survey instruments used to examine preservice programs, the schedule and interview forms for the on-site visits, a list of occupational tests available through the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute, a summary of 1983-84 project funding by the Federal Vocational Education Act, and a list of the members of the project's panel of experts.)
