| Abstract | The history, organization, and program offerings of the collegiate Centers for Economic Education (affiliated with the Pennsylvania and Joint Councils on Economic Education) are compared with those of the Private Enterprise Market System. The Private Enterprise Market System is a small, Pennsylvania-based center, whose programs are only beginning to be available in other states, while programs affiliated with the Joint Council are available nationally. The Private Enterprise Market System targets high school sophomores and seniors while the Joint Council programs try to integrate economic education into all grade levels. A discussion of the history and organization of the two groups covers reasons for founding, the development of organizational structure and current organization, goals, activities, and coordination with schools. The program section covers the philosophies of both systems, instructional materials, teacher training, and curriculum guides. The final section compares the two programs and concludes that both programs offer advantages and drawbacks. (IS) |
