AbstractThis social studies curriculum guide for grade 11 in Manitoba, Canada, examines the historical development of Canada, with a focus on social and political history. The course also covers the way in which Canada's history has developed and is developing within an international context. The study has been divided into the following units and themes: Unit I, "The Peopling of Canada" (the various Native Canadian groups and the immigration of non-Native people); Unit II, "New Societies to 1867"; Unit III, "Government, Federalism, and Politics" (Canadian government); Unit IV, "Social and Economic Changes in Modern Canada since 1850" (changes brought about by technology and industrialization); Unit V, "Western Canada" (the history of western Canada, with emphasis on Manitoba); and Unit VI, "Canada's External Relations" (Canada's changing relationship with the rest of the world). Each unit begins with an overview of its main theme. Major topics within each theme are then outlined. Educational objectives and focusing questions are provided for the topics. An appendix contains excerpts from the social studies K-12 interim guide. (RM)
