AbstractThis booklet consists of 10 sample lessons integrating population education into the social studies. It is one of four in a series. Materials differ from those in an earlier series (1980) in that lessons are presented at the secondary level only; there is no duplication of lessons from the earlier series in terms of content and teaching strategies. Lessons focus on population problems; population in India; world population growth; problems of independent India; effects of population size on per capita income, standard of living, and economic development; the effect of population change on ecological balance; quality of life and socialist modernization; population and cities; children as liabilities and assets; and sociocultural values affecting population change. Each lesson contains a box which provides the user with initial information with regard to content, objectives, grade level, and subject into which population education should be integrated. Although the main body of each lesson varies, most lessons contain an overview of content, teaching-learning strategy, and evaluation suggestions. Lessons were adapted from material derived from China, India, and the Philippines. (LH)
