| Abstract | The Los Angeles Unified School District's Adopt-A-School Program is described as a program where a business or an industry sponsors a school. Some of the ways business and industry can help students are to provide role models, tutor students, give mini-course lectures, share hobbies, offer counseling, give club sponsorship, provide summer employment to students, conduct tours and field trips, sponsor contests, and provide cultural experiences. The following materials are included: (1) 67 selected activities for businesses and schools; (2) 12 steps the school can take to build a lasting and successful partnership; (3) 11 steps that business can take to build a lasting and successful partnership; (4) suggestions for a successful tour of a company, including directions to the teacher and to the company coordinator for before, during, and after the tour; (5) two issues of the district's Adopt-A-School newsletter; and (6) a brochure containing information on the program. This brochure points out the benefits to business and to students, ways in which businesses can sponsor schools, five simple guidelines for a school-business relationship, and a contact person for industries or businesses who may be interested in the Adopt-A-School Program.
