Abstract	The curriculum guide is intended for those who live and work with mentally retarded adults and for mentally retarded adults attempting to succeed in community living. The first section focuses on training staff and provides guidelines for describing the content and methods employed in the curriculum. Research on such issues as self-concept, sex and marriage, child rearing, and sterilization and abortion is reviewed, legal concepts considered, religious thinking on the issues addressed, and suggestions for working with parents offered. The curriculum itself is composed of seven units, with goals, objectives, and activities designed to help the learners grasp the main points. The units include the following: understanding your body (individual differences/self-care); experiencing your life cycle (baby to senior citizen); sharing your feelings (becoming aware, understanding others); accepting your handicap; expressing your sexuality (sexual feelings and expression, marriage, parenthood); relating person to person (friends, work associates); and keeping fit (illnesses of the sex organs and urinary system, drugs, safety and first aid). The final section, the appendices, includes worksheets, policy statements, a list of rights of the developmentally disabled, sample letters, a glossary and subject index, and a list of resources for teaching aids and materials.
