Abstract | This publication, one of a series of self-contained instructional materials for students enrolled in training within the allied health field, includes competencies that are associated with the performance of skills by students beginning the study of pharmacy assistance. It is intended to be used for individualized instruction under the supervision of an instructor. The student manual includes learning objectives, vocabulary, and information needed to help the students master the objectives. This pharmacy assistance training manual contains 28 units covering the following topics: careers in pharmacy; ethics; drug legislation; pharmacy cleanliness and maintenance; dispensing in the pharmacy; receiving, storing, and distributing drugs; metrology; safety; managing a pharmacy; customer/patient relations; prescription drugs; routes of administration; cardiovascular drugs; gastrointestinal drugs; respiratory drugs; infectious disease drugs; nervous system drugs; hormones; nonprescription medications; antacid products; antidiarrheal and laxative products; analgesics; allergy, cough, and cold products; nutritional supplements, vitamins, and minerals; poison ivy products; burn and sunburn products; and weight control products.
